Electives Medical students from all over the world are
welcome here at Mseleni. The ability to speak English is helpful, even if
it's only what you've learnt at school. You don't have to be a Zulu speaker, but
you might like to learn the basic greeting. "Mseleni is a
fantastic place to do an elective. There are many opportunities for learning
and obtaining experience carrying out practical procedures such as inserting
chest drains, performing lumbar punctures and assisting in theatre. Despite
the many opportunities, there is no pressure to do anything you don't feel
comfortable with, you can do as much or as little as you like. Although
there's little to do locally in the evenings, the other doctors are all
on-site and are all very friendly and Sodwana beach is only half an hour's
drive away. I would highly recommend it - I loved it and am keen to go
back!" "I want just mention
one of many highlights in between an amazing time during my medical elective
here in Mseleni: The doctors visit eight different clinics in the villages
around, some of the are best to reach by plane. I've been to two of them on a
very nice Mseleni winters day (which is about the same as a German summers
day) flying over a gorgeous landscape and the coast to the Indian Ocean -
difficult to find the right words for a description. And that is only one
reason why I think you should come, do your medical elective in Mseleni and
see it yourself!" |
